Don’t you wish that picking out a caterer were as easy as choosing wine wedding favors or silver wedding favors? Well, wish in one hand, pour catsup in the other, and see which one fills up first. Hiring the right caterer for your budget could be the most difficult task you will do when planning, and putting together your perfect wedding and reception.
Be prepared to spend some time on this. You will have to interview several caterers in each area of service that you need catered. If you go with the very first caterer that throws a good number at you, odds are you will regret it when it is too late to change it. Speak to several and find one that not only stands out from the rest, find the one that you actually like and feel you would have probably called friend in other circumstances. Make a list of everything that you are expecting of a caterer and don’t back down too easily if one or more of your points can’t be met to your satisfaction. It is also important to listen. You may be making an unreasonable request without realizing it.
Listening to your caterer is important. If you present them with an unreasonable or difficult request, do they simply tell you it can’t be done or do they also offer alternatives and solutions that would benefit both you and your budget. If they are offering solutions then you are on the right track. A good caterer is creative and solves problems to get your business and keep it. It is the mark of a good businessman to find things that will work for you instead of against you and will offer many options when faced with an obstacle that will help you surmount it.
